The new year has officially begun and all of us are waiting for our favorite authors to release their newer works with bated breath! From what we have read and heard about the upcoming books, it wouldn’t be one bit wrong to say that 2022 is going to be an amazing year for all the bookworms. With loads of book releases lined up, one won’t fall less of books to add in your TBR.
Here we present to you, our top 3 books which you absolutely must read once they are released. Note that, as these books haven’t been released yet, we are not able to provide an in-depth review but an overview of the book, from the various statements released by the authors.
Author: Danya Kukafka
Oh, this book might sound like an average murder mystery, but from what we hear, it is not. This book is based on a serial killer named Ansel Packer who is awaiting his execution on Death Row. The book is written as he lives his last twelve hours. But its not from his perspective. the book is based on the perspectives of three women who loved and knew him as well as those who didn’t. The three women were none other than his mother, sister and a homicide detective. This book is sure to become a cult classic and one of the easiest books to recommend.
2. A Black Cake
Author: Chairman Wilkerson
The book is set in California where Eleanor Bennett’s death leaves behind a mystifying inheritance for her two children, Byron and Benny who were twins. Eleanor had recorded a voice recording, the message shared Eleanor’s tumultuous story about a young swimmer who escapes her island home under suspicion of murder. The more she says, the more the siblings feel their lack of knowledge about their lineage and even their own selves.
However, does their mother’s revelation bring them together or put them further apart?
Author: Kai Harris
The book is narrated from the perspective of 11 year old, Kenyatta Bernice(KB).
Her father had passed away owing to overdose. Kenyatta and her teenage sister Nia were sent to live with their grandfather in Lansing by their overwhelmed mother. Throughout summer, KB tries to get her bearings in a world that had turned upside down for them. Her mother who was deep in grief, her sister who she once considered his best friend but owing to her adolescence had completely changed. Her grandfather was no better either, he was silent most of the time and it felt as if he didn’t enjoy their company much.
All of them had their own secrets, something which only they knew. Owing to the sudden change in her life, KB now has to carve out a completely new identity for herself, be her own voice in this extremely shattered world of theirs.

Our mothers are our best friends most often than not. Carol, Katy’s mother experienced a sudden death before their mother-daughter pre-planned trip of lifetime looms: 2 feels in Postiano, the magical town Carol had spent the summer in right before she meant Katy’s father.
Katy for obvious reasons had been waiting for this trip for years, and now she had no option but to go on this trip alone. The moment Katy enters Amalfi Coast, she begins to feel her mother’s presence.
Soon Carol appears, healthy, but 30 years old. Katy didn’t understand what was going on. The only thing she notices is that her mother has somehow come back. Over the trip, Katy gets to know Carol, however not as her mother but as a 30-year-old woman.
5. Gallant
Author : V.E. Schwab
The book revolves around Olivia Prior who has grown up in Merilance School, which was a school for girls. All she had of her mother was her mother’s journal. One day, a letter invites Olivia to come back home to Gallant. When she is invited, one would feel that people there would expect her. However, no one did. Olivia was not going to leave that place so easily, it was the first place that felt like home. It didn’t matter to her how and what others perceived of her.
Soon, Olivia realizes that Gallant hid secrets, too many of them - each one of them, Olivia was ready to uncover. On crossing a wall, she encounters a new but not so new place, a place which was Gallant but not Gallant.
Olivia has always had a wish to belong somewhere, be able to relate to someone. Is she able to achieve that in Gallant? What does she find there?
